Our main interest lies in the understanding of how organisms communicate with each other to establish successful interactions. We are studying the effect of bacterial volatiles on plant growth and development. A second major interest concerns the biogeography of soil bacterial communities, with a specific focus on the genus Burkholderia. We are assessing the role of acid tolerance in the biogeography of soil Burkholderia populations and elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying acid tolerance in this genus
