About Us

IPMB advances the knowledge-based use of natural resources to address environmental challenges and societal needs. It uniquely combines research on plants and microbes at the molecular level, integrating diverse disciplines – plant development, basic and environmental microbiology, plant-microbe interactions, evolutionary biology, and microbiome science – through research and teaching. Using methods including molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, genomics, proteomics, epigenetics, AI and other computational approaches, IPMB generates mechanistic knowledge with the potential to contribute to sustainable agriculture, food security, ecosystem health, and water conservation also in the context of One Health. This interdisciplinary approach drives innovation from the laboratory to both field and society. Internationally recognized for its excellence in research, IPMB maintains strong collaborations with academic, industry, and policy organizations, contributing significantly to address global challenges and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
